Day 3 of the tour

Tour Itinerary

Beng Mealea Temple and Koh Ker.

DESCRIPTION

This tour will start after breakfast around 7:30 – 8:00am. We have a long drive to get to Koh Ker which is about 120km from Siem Reap. Along the road to Koh Ker, we’ll pass by Beng Mealea temple which is about half way between Koh Ker and Siem Reap Town.

Beng Mealea

It takes around an hour and a half to drive the 60 or so kilometres to Beng Mealea temple from Siem Reap. Due to its location outside of the town, it isn’t as busy as the temples at Angkor. However, it does still attract hundreds of visitors each day.

Beng Mealea is often cited as a favourite temple for visitors because of its unique appearance. The temple is in ruins and little attempt has been made to fix it. The surrounding jungle is literally growing through the structure, further creating a unique look you won’t find anywhere else in Cambodia.

You tour guide will walk you through the temple and explaining the layout, structure and history of Beng Mealea to you. You’ll explore the grounds of the temple and the surrounding jungle. We’ll then stop for lunch in a nearby local restaurant. There are also a few shops around where you can buy souvenirs.

Koh Ker

We’ll continue driving north into Preah Vihear province to visit the temple complex at Koh Ker. For a brief time, Koh Ker was once the capital city of the Khmer Empire and many temples were built here.
